The Forer Effect


The forer effect also known as subjective evaluation effect, is ‘that people tend to accept a vague and general personality descriptions as uniquely applicable to themselves, without realizing that the same could be applicable just about anyone.’ Is it true? The kind of personality assessments or tests or Horoscopes, and among many other methods depend upon this effect, seem valid. There are numerous case studies that have shown so-called experts use this technique to win over unsuspecting and vulnerable individuals.

This type of reading is called ‘Cold Reading’. Cold reading refers to a set of techniques used by manipulators to get subject behave in a certain way or think cold reader possess some qualities or ability that allows to know things about subject.
