Santosh Avvannavar, Kundan Srivastava and Raghunath Babu Are introduce their debut work, ‘Title is Untitled: First Night, No Light,’ released at the Festival of Hope in Delhi, November 22, 2014.
‘Title is Untitled’ is a unique social commentary, focused on the issue of rape and the social institutions that enable it in urban and rural India.
Instead of relying solely on statistics to present their argument, Avvannavar, Srivastava and Babu Are utilize fictitious stories to serve as ‘case studies’ about how women are treated in Indian society. The book covers a myriad of interwoven topics, including education, early-arranged marriage and brothel trafficking. The authors tackle serious issues in a novel format, even throwing in a healthy dose of humor towards the end of the book.
Indian actor and director Kabir Sadanand offers advance praise for the work, “We must understand [rape victims] don’t need our sympathy, what they need is our commitment to stand by them. The initiative and courage to do the same as shown by the authors is inspirational.”
