In the part 1 I discussed about the beginning of idea (incase you missed to read – Part 1). I spoke to most of the students who went through various rounds of interviews to get insights from recruiter perspective that be a technical test, technical interview, case based interviews, group discussion and HR interviews. I tried to connect those points to the job description and role projection after several years. This analogy seemed to me a short-term objective the way students prepared for campus recruitment and similar thing from hiring perspective. Even today it continue to remain same across many industries. I call it as ‘Pain-Oientiment’ relationship.

This exercise to put those points took almost two years. This has continue to remain on board for refinement to help for interview preparation in the present and future writings.

In the next article I will present how Indian marriages has helped the first chapter to shape and happen.

What’s motivation behind this book?
Our research and close observation of the job interviewing process for graduates at Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru during 2008 and 2009 for nearly 500 students in various companies, is the inspiration for this book.

How did the book shape?
The idea of book all began seven years ago; gathering information and compilation took one year, writing clear and concise manuscript took one and half year, revisions, addition, debate, arguments and others took another 6 months, decision of publisher and publication took another year. You see it takes a toll to convert an idea into a project!

Einstein Story and Book Launch!


Authors view (Santosh Avvannavar and Raghavendra Kumar Reddy): The idea to project took nearly 7 years (writing and publication took nearly 2 years), we were always fascinated with the slick book that were clear, specific and precise (minimal filler). A unconventional book that is likely to break the Q&A format and provide a framework to begin. Why such book are important for a long term career goal? We like to tell this through a story –

Einstein won nobel prize for physics, many ears waited earnestly to hear his innovation each and everyone in those days. Very often Einstein would get invited by a university to speak about his innovation and motivate others. His driver would wonder seeing the crazy people had for him, cheered ‘Einstein, Einstein..’ as he walked into the auditorium. The driver used to hear the same presentation each day and wondered, if one could get nobel prize by giving such talk – why can’t I? He proposed a deal with his master that he could present like him and deserves to win a nobel prize. Einstein was happy and curious to see if his driver could take his position. Einstein became driver and the driver became Einstein as a trial. As media wasn’t popular, people weren’t aware how Einstein would really look like. The driver was made to look like Einstein and Einstein took the driver seat. As the driver walked into the auditorium, people cheered ‘Einstein, Einstein..’, he was overwhelmed by the people response. Einstein was surprised and happy to see his driver making presentation just like him. At the end of talk, the driver (Einstein at moment) was about a take his seat, a lady got up from her seat to ask a doubt. Driver didn’t know the Einstein is awarded nobel for his technical contribution over only mere a presentation. The doubt was, ‘If a ball is made to move from one end of the earth through a hole and the ball has to come through another hole….”. Driver presence of mind was something to admire, after listening to the question he quipped,’Lady, you are asking a very simple question to a nobel prize winner, my driver can answer such question.’ He asked his driver (Einstein) to answer this question. Jokes apart! The story is an example of Einstein innovation over failure is the result of nobel prize, the prize was worth because it was clear, concise and precise. Hence the number of pages doesn’t define a value of book!

How to get a job without an interview?

I was asked several times a simple and difficult question ‘How did you get a job without an interview?’ I found it interesting to answer such a simple and difficult question.Over introspect I have found answer to it, its just one word ‘Abnormal’. Whenever I told this to people burst out of laugh and perhaps uncontrollable at times.

If I had to look into the reasons for this one word answer are –

1. I did choose to study because the school/institution will provide value to one’s life. It will provide a path for more meaningful life not job.
2. The people orientation quality because of my parents made me earn more people rather money. Perhaps that’s something I thank them.
3. I wrote more than 500 articles, 16 Conference papers, more than 25 research papers in journals, took an extra mile to make things happen till date and continue to do so. I did it not think of winning or for certificate sake.
4. I value people and relationship and their family rather than my life at many a times.
5. Feel bad if the product is sold for just making money, never compromise in value addition.
6. Enjoy everything I do and know’s what to do. Loves work, perhaps mad about it. I create my own work and add more working hours.
7. Takes up tasks without salary and perhaps worked or helped without it.

Perhaps these were the reasons, I was never interviewed, rather jobs were offered in the past and continues to happen. It’s great to be in this abnormal life in the normal world.
